From humble beginnings in 1913 to becoming an innovator in fresh food manufacturing, JL King & Co. has evolved and expanded without losing sight of what matters most: quality, sustainability, and community.
With 155 dedicated employees, we’ve grown from serving local businesses to partnering with supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, bakeries, bistros, schools, hospitals, and more Australia wide. Our production process has transformed, utilising cutting-edge technology to boost efficiency, maintain top-tier quality, and enhance sustainability. And despite our growth, our family-owned values remain at the heart of everything we do.
In 2024, we took a monumental step forward—moving into our brand-new, purpose-built factory. Designed for the future, this cutting-edge facility has tripled our production capacity and integrated the latest technology, setting new industry standards in efficiency, food safety, and sustainability.
But what truly defines this milestone isn’t just the state-of-the-art machinery—it’s the dedication of our team. Under immense pressure, our employees showcased incredible teamwork, resilience, and commitment, meeting ambitious deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
Now, with our new facility fully operational, we’re surpassing production targets, expanding into new markets, and growing our customer base. Advanced technology has streamlined operations, reduced waste, and elevated product quality, reinforcing our position as an industry leader. More than just a physical transformation, this journey has strengthened our culture of innovation and collaboration. Quality is our priority and achieving Safe Quality Food (SQF) Certification proves our commitment to delivering the highest standards in food safety and excellence.
Simply Tasty’s fresh new look
Our sister company, Simply Tasty, underwent a complete brand refresh. With a bold new design and exciting meal launches on the way, we’re making it even easier for customers to enjoy delicious, convenient, ready-made meals.
A greener future
Sustainability is at the forefront of our journey. Our new environmentally friendly factory is designed with efficiency in mind, and in 2025, we’ll take a major step forward by transitioning to more sustainable packaging for our ready meals.
We have set a high standard with sustainability initiatives, including:
- Advanced HVAC&R System: Upgraded to enhance energy efficiency, leading to significant operational savings.
- Solar Power Integration: Installed a 475kW solar array, reducing grid reliance and carbon emissions.
- Net-Zero Commitment: On track to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040, with a 50% reduction by 2030.
- Sustainable Operations: Circular wastewater management, energy-efficient lighting, and superior building insulation.
- Electric Vehicle Transition: Committed to a fully electric vehicle fleet by 2030.

Proud supporters of the McKern Foundation
Through the Fresh Fruit Friday Program, we help deliver over 900kg of fresh fruit to 35 schools each week, benefiting over 11,000 students.
